The map shows the relative index of ecosystem fragmentation in the Czech Republic, based on the Consolidated Layer of Ecosystems. Ecosystem fragmentation index represents the proportion of intensively anthropogenically modified ecosystems to natural ecosystems (assessed in 50 km x 50 km grid-cells). We present the current state of ecosystem fragmentation, since data and models to generate detailed future projections of fine-scale landscape composition are not available. High values of fragmentation generally occur in areas with high abundance of anthropogenic ecosystems. Approximately 80% of the Czech Republic is characterized by low occurrence of natural ecosystems and high fragmentation. Only 0.3% of the territory comprise large areas of natural ecosystems and low fragmentation is assumed.
